Economy > Status

Obama might come back to Puerto Rico. If it happens, it’ll be an opportunity to discuss the Puerto Rican economic reality with Obama, and a chance to hopefully address it. If he’s here for more than 24 hours, we can also discuss rising crime, our crisis in education, and ways to make Puerto Rico more attractive to foreign and US investors.

However, that would be in an ideal environment. Something which in my lifetime has never occurred. Instead, our hyper-partisan Puerto Rican political structure, this time spearheaded by Secretary of State Kenneth McClintock, wants to take this rare opportunity to discuss the biggest non-issue here: Status.

Sec. McClintock, I mean no disrespect, but Shut up. We need to create jobs, a tax structure that attracts investment, and benefits to keep existing jobs in Puerto Rico, not a definition on status.
